Shipping Luggage to Spain from Australia

When sending items from Australia to Spain, you will need to provide some additional documentation alongside the customs form supplied by My Baggage.

This includes:

• A copy of the recipient's passport image page.
• If applicable, a flight ticket showing travel from the same country as the shipment.
• If applicable, Spanish citizens may need to present a copy of their DNI Card (Documento Nacional de Identidad / National Identity Document). Non-Spanish citizens might need to show their NIE Card (Número de Identidad de Extranjero / Foreigner Identity Number) or visa.

Requirements vary based on your circumstances, and here’s a breakdown:

• Holiday/Temporary Stay in Spain: For those visiting temporarily, Spanish citizens require their DNI card. Non-citizens need a passport along with inbound and outbound flight tickets. If staying longer than three months, an NIE must be obtained from the local Tax Office or Police Station in Spain.
• Studying in Spain: Students must provide their passport, DNI or NIE card, flight ticket to Spain, and a letter of enrolment from their educational institution.
• Returning Resident: Returning Spanish citizens should present their DNI card, passport, and flight ticket to Spain. Non-citizens living in Spain must provide their NIE card or visa, passport, and flight ticket.
• Working in Spain: If moving to Spain for work, you will need your NIE number, flight ticket, proof of registration (Certificado de Empadronamiento), and your Spanish address.
• Relocating to Spain: Those relocating should provide their NIE number, inbound flight details, proof of registration (Certificado de Empadronamiento), and their address in Spain. Spanish citizens returning after being abroad for over a year may require a Baja Consular.

To avoid potential issues, it's advisable that all documentation required by customs is in the name of the recipient, who should be the owner of the shipment. If any documents are in the sender’s name and differ from the recipient’s name, customs may reject the shipment.

When shipping personal effects, ensure that the names of both the sender and recipient match those of the shipment's owner.

• Declared Value: Shipments valued over €150, or containing non-standard personal items, will incur duties, regardless of weight.
• Duty-Free Allowance: Shipments up to 35kg for temporary stays (such as holidays) can be cleared duty-free. Shipments exceeding 35kg or those not eligible for duty-free entry will be subject to additional duties and taxes.
• Gifts: Gifts sent to Spain are duty-free up to a value of €45. If the declared value of a gift exceeds this amount, duties and taxes may apply to the entire value.
